Three people get killed in shooting incident in Kentucky
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, "I’m heartbroken to share the shooting in Lexington (city) at Richmond Road Baptist Church has taken the lives of two people."
The events began at 11:36 a.m. local time (15:36 GMT) when the suspect shot a Kentucky State Police trooper on Terminal Drive near Blue Grass Airport. According to Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, the trooper had stopped a vehicle on Terminal Drive after receiving an alert from a license plate reader near Versailles Road.
The suspect fired at the trooper, who is currently stable and receiving medical care, and then fled the scene.
Weathers clarified that the shooting did not happen inside the airport terminal and was unrelated to the airport’s operations.
Afterward, the suspect reportedly carjacked a vehicle on Belleau Drive before driving to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he opened fire on the church premises.
Authorities confirmed no injuries occurred during the carjacking.
